Zomato, Swiggy face nationwide outage during lunch hours; check how netizen reacted
Food ordering apps Zomato and Swiggy faced nationwide outage on Wednesday during the lunch hours causing difficulties for customers trying to order.
On Wednesday afternoon, Zomato and Swiggy, major food ordering apps, faced nationwide outage. Both the applications experienced technical difficulties and were unresponsive for almost an hour. Online platform Downdetector recorded more than 3,000 reports of outage against Zomato and 789 reports of outage against Swiggy at around 2PM. According to some reports, the outage was caused by Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud-services platform, which runs both the apps. While Zomato and Swiggy both are operational now, the apps are still glitching and it appears that the issue has not been completely resolved. At the moment, while the front end of the applications are working, the payment gateway and order placement is not fully functional.
The outage came right at the onset of lunch hours, when many people order their food online. As both the major food delivery platforms went down, many users took to Twitter to complain about the issue. A user tweeted, “Placed an order from Domino’s Pizza through your app. Payment got deducted.I called Domino’s they said we haven’t received any such order yet. Neither the chat works nor the customer care is picking up the call”. Many others are also complaining about payment getting deducted but orders not being placed.
Zomato, Swiggy face nationwide outage, users face difficulties
As the complaints on Twitter mounted, both the platforms confirmed that they were facing technical difficulties. Zomato replied to a user, “Hi there, we are facing a temporary glitch. Please be assured our team is working on this and we will be up and running soon”. Similarly, on a complaint towards Swiggy, the company responded with, “We’re currently unable to process your request as we’re experiencing technical constraints. Not to worry, our best minds are on it and we’ll be up and running soon”.
The root cause behind this entire issue seems to be AWS facing server issues at their end causing technical glitches for not only Zomato and Swiggy but a few other clients as well.
Soon after the platforms faced outage, #Zomato and #Swiggy began trending on Twitter. While many users were frustrated due to their bad experience on the platforms, others began joking on the situation.
Twitter user Ankita Giri wrote, “Is Zomato down for everybody or has God finally decided to take matter into His own hands cz mere se toh weight loss ab hone se raha”.
The official handle of Netflix India also decided to take a jab at the situation and posted, “If the apps are down, who’s taking the order of the Peaky Blinders”?
It is advisable to wait till both the companies confirm that their services are up and running again before placing an order.
