India had one of its forgetful innings during the third Test at Leeds when they got all out 78 runs against England on Day 1. The Indian batting line-up lost their last six in just 22 runs after being at 56/4 at lunch. It was their lowest Test total against England since being dismissed for 42 at Lord’s in 1974.
While none of the Indian batsmen took the responsibility of scoring runs, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has spoken against Cheteshwar Pujara.
The middle-order batsman in the 5 innings that he has played in the series thus far, aggregated just 71 runs. He has scored his runs at an average of just 17.75.
So talking about the same Vaughan said Pujara is totally at sea and added that the batsman has lost both his mind as well as his technique. he even stated that James Anderson has found the edge of Pujara’s willow.
“Pujara looks all at sea. Looks like he has lost his mind, lost his technique. Looks to me like he is playing purely for survival. And Jimmy found the outside edge of Pujara. And then it’s just pressure. The ball was swinging around nicely,” said Vaughan on BBC.
Vaughan also stated that the Indian batsmen played only for survival and opined that India did not show any desperation.
“I felt India got stuck in a bit, particularly Rohit Sharma. He is such a good player. He was almost playing just for survival. Jadeja played for survival. We are looking at Rishabh Pant, he played like a half and half shot. That’s not Rishabh.
“You get a sense that India probably didn’t have that desperation today. They probably thought they could just play. And it’s a pointer to them that at this level, you can’t just arrive and play and just think that you’re going to have a good day. You have to make those good days happen. You get these situations where England, had to win today. It was desperation. The mentality had to be so good from the England side,” concluded Vaughan.
