It was a special night for Billy Walters as the son of Brisbane coach and club legend Kevin Walters made his Broncos debut at Suncorp Stadium.
But a wild streaker attempted to take the spotlight from the Broncs five-eighth moments after their victory over Souths on Friday night.
Walters, 28, was named in the starting line-up by his legendary father for their curtain-raiser against the Bunnies, with the Queensland side missing new recruit Adam Reynolds who had been sidelined with Covid.

Yet the five-eighth shone on his club debut, linking up well with try scorer Albert Kelly and chipping in defensively to keep last year’s Grand Finalists at bay.
As his team-mates were basking in their Round 1 triumph post-game, Walters spoke to Channel 9’s team about his side’s victory and fulfilling his ‘dream’ – only to be interrupted by the appearance of a streaker.
‘There’s nothing better than Round 1, coming here, 30,000 people and coming away with the win,’ he said. ‘Nerves didn’t really kick in until we came out on the field but I was so excited, I have dreamt of this for my whole life.

‘The focus for me tonight was to get my defence right. [Adam Reynolds] is so good, he brings my game to another level, he brings out my best footy. We kept turning up for each other, we will take the win.
While the chaos at the other end of the field was unfolding, Walters was momentarily distracted as he said: ‘It seems like there is a lot of belief in the group… I feel like we are on the way up.’

Walters impressed on his Broncos debut and delighted in realising his ‘dream’ in Round 1
After the game, Broncos coach Kevin Walters delighted in his side’s ‘gritty’ resolve and took aim at critics who had questioned the inclusion of his son in the starting line-up.
‘Tough, gritty and I thought our defence was probably the best it’s been since I’ve been here – that’s the stuff you can really build a team around,’ coach Walters said.
‘I’m not sure who was questioning it (Billy’s selection) … I knew that performance was in him, but knowing and doing that is two different things.
‘It’s nice sitting here after a victory knowing Adam Reynolds is going to drop back into the side next week.’
