Léa Seydoux Epitomized French Chic at the César Awards
The internet is rife with guides on how to achieve “French girl style,” but capturing the ease and nonchalance of Gallic fashion is easier said than done—especially on the red carpet. When it’s time to dress for a big event, most celebrities go for broke in outlandish clothes, but at tonight’s César Awards, Léa Seydoux demonstrated the power of simplicity. Up for the Best Actress prize for her performance in Bruno Dumont’s satire, France, Seydoux arrived at L’Olympia in Paris wearing a custom piece from Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière. Her black silk gown wasn’t the most dramatic outfit of the evening, but it exuded glamour from every angle.
Strapless with an embroidered polka-dot cape that trailed behind her as she entered the venue, Seydoux’s dress adhered to French style’s less is more principals. Understated with clean lines and few details, the look didn’t require outré embellishment to stand out, nor did it adhere to any of the moment’s big trends. Instead, the gown’s subtlety and timelessness were its strengths.
Accessorizing with diamonds and sapphire earrings from Vuitton’s high jewelry collection and a swipe of red lipstick, Seydoux and her stylist sister, Camille, played up the gown’s classicism. An LV ambassador since 2016, Seydoux has worn plenty of Ghesquière’s creations, but her latest look was an example of awards season style at its best.
