Cowboys go to virtual format, add three to COVID-19 list

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and defensive tackle Carlos Watkins were sent home early from Saturday’s preseason loss to the Houston Texans because of COVID-19 protocols.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Dallas switched to a virtual format for Sunday and Monday and added wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and safeties Malik Hooker and Israel Mukuamu to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday.

The Cowboys confirmed over the weekend that 93% of their players (80 of 86 individuals on the roster) are considered fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. It’s not known if any of the Dallas personnel on the reserve/COVID-19 list are experiencing any symptoms or if they’ll be available for this coming Sunday’s preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys are expected to return to the practice field Tuesday barring the discovery of an outbreak.

“I’m probably a lot like everyone in here. I watch the numbers, listen to the league’s recommendations, definitely aware what’s going on in our society, definitely here locally and just anticipate,” head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters. “My job is to make sure that we have a plan regardless of what happens.”

Dallas begins the regular season at the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 9.
