Amrita Rao recalls how Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar’s songs played ‘cupid’ for her and RJ Anmol – Exclusive – Times of India

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar left for heavenly abode on February 6 at the age of 92. Her demise has left the entire nation teary-eyed. Actress Amrita Rao recalled her connection with Lata ji’s songs. While speaking to ETimes, the actress also said that she is ‘blessed’ she got a chance to essay Lata Mangeshkar’s role in her TV debut, ‘Meri Awaz Hi Pehchan Hai’.

Amrita shared, “From childhood just listening to Lata ji’s songs, they have taught me the knowledge of sur, rhythm and singing.”

She further recalled that she and her husband RJ Anmol connected through Lata ji and Kishore Kumar’s song ‘Gum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein’. She went on to tag the song as their ‘cupid’ and said, “Her voice, I’m sure, has struck the romantic chord in every girl. When I met Anmol, it was Lata ji’s song ‘Gum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein’ that played the role of cupid and since then Lata ji and Kishore Kumar’s songs actually brought us together. I am blessed to have got a chance to essay her role in my TV debut in the series ‘Meri Awaz Hi Pehchan Hai’ where I truly had the opportunity to live a slice of the legend’s life. Lata ji has and will continue to give us happiness until the end of our lives.”

Lata Mangeshkar’s last rites were performed at Dadar’s Shivaji Park with full State honours. It was attended by PM Narendra Modi and other personalities like Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Sharad Pawar, Vidya Balan, Uddhav Thackeray, Raj Thackeray, Piyush Goyal and others.
