Someone paid over Rs 5.85 crore to buy Apple II manual signed by Steve Jobs – Times of India

A user manual of Apple II computer from 1979 signed by Steve Jobs and Mike Markkula fetched $787,484 (or over Rs 5.85 crore) at an auction in the US. The user manual belonged to Julian Brewer, the son of Michael Brewer. As per description provided by RR Auctions, Julian was a teenager at the time, son of entrepreneur Mike Brewer who had negotiated exclusive distribution rights for Apple products in the UK and later became the first Managing Director of Apple Computer (UK) Ltd.
Steve Jobs signed the manual and wrote: “Julian, your generation is the first to grow up with computers. Go change the world! Steven Jobs, 1980.”
Julian told RR Auctions, “I was sitting in my bedroom writing games on my Apple II when Dad called me down to meet some guests. To my amazement it was Steve Jobs and Mike Markkula. I had the manual with me and only later understood how rare it was for Jobs to sign anything, let alone to write an inscription like this. He got on well with Dad, so I feel the inscription was made with care.”
The Apple II gave around “6 million homes and businesses their first taste of personal computing”. Apple II’s revenues supported Apple’s successful floatation, the biggest tech IPO of the time, it added.
A total of 46 bids were made and the winning bid was $787,484.
Recently, a job application filled by Jobs fetched a whopping $3,43,000 in an online auction. The job application was filled by Jobs in 1973 when he was 18-years-old. It’s said to be the only job application that he ever filled out as he, along with Steve Wozniak, started Apple in 1976.
