Each winter, the search for a stylish winter coat begins. And while peacoats, longline coats, and puffer coats are classic options, the celebrity-favorite teddy coat—worn by everyone from Hailey Bieber to Katie Holmes—is here to stay. Lightweight and plush, I recently discovered Ralph Lauren’s double-breasted teddy coat (part of the Lauren Ralph Lauren line) that rings in at just $200. It has a relaxed fit, elevated wide lapels, and is surprisingly affordable.
Given its lightweight and neutral color palette, it’s an easy everyday coat to wear throughout the season. Style it with a pair of tailored trousers and a cable-knit sweater for the office. For dinner, pair it with a midi-length knit dress and knee-high boots. And for the weekend, lean into the comfort factor by topping it over a set of joggers, a striped sweater, and white sneakers. Though it’s not the ideal coat for rain and snow, it will indeed keep you warm on especially frigid wintry days, especially if layered over a thin puffer vest.
Much of the reason I’m drawn to this coat is its perfect fit. I’m often tasked with editing stories catered to petite frames and am constantly on the hunt for pieces that will fit nicely on my 5-foot-2 stature—and this coat doesn’t swallow me up as many coats do. It’s just as cozy as the name (the teddy) implies and has a friendly price tag to boot; if you make one more fashion purchase before 2021 ends, make it this one.
