Infighting withing: Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly leaves virtual meet
After the announcement of the list, an organizational meeting was convened to discuss the poll strategies of the party last evening. Roopa Ganguly had joined the meeting and during discussion had expressed her disgruntlement regarding selection of candidates in the KMC polls. She has allegedly left the meeting midway, after commenting about selection of candidates and said there was no justification of calling such meetings.
Notably, BJP state chief Sukanta Majumdar was present at the meeting and the incident had left the BJP Bengal leadership red-faced.
Later, she took to social media and expressed her opinion about BJP councillor of ward 86, Teesta Biswas, who was killed in a gruesome accident while returning to Kolkata in her car. Teesta’s husband Gaurab Biswas was denied ticket from the same ward and it has been reportedly said that one Rajarshi Lahiri, known to be close with the state party chief, was given ticket from the ward, sources said. Gaurab Biswas is fighting with an independent ticket from the same ward.
Actress-turned Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly wrote in her Facebook post that she will stand by Teetsa’s husband Gaurab, “with her limited capacity” and she is even more confirmed that Teesta’s death was not an accident but murder. Incidentally, senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha had recently expressed doubts whether Teesta Biswas’ death was murder or an accident.
The meeting was attended by Amitabha Chakraborty, general secretary (organization), National Vice-President Dilip Ghosh among others. The state leadership is likely to inform the central leadership about the incident.
On Monday, the saffron party announced names of 144 candidates for KMC polls with focus on women and grassroot workers as candidates.
