Mums fined as cops swarm Sydney‘s east

TikTok user @aley.hammer posted the video on Thursday, showing NSW police officers writing the fines while talking to two women with prams and small children at a Bronte park, in Sydney’s east.

“These mums have just been fined $1000 each and police are everywhere in Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi,” the user said in the video.

“I guess they just want us to stay indoors right now and get this lockdown over with. Stay safe everybody.”

In the footage, there are a number of other people — mostly dressed in active wear — also in the park.

NSW Police confirmed to NCA NewsWire three women, one aged 24 and two aged 22, were each issued $1000 Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) for breaching the Public Health Order by sitting together with their children at about 10am.

“The women were spoken to and subsequently issued $1,000 PINs for being in a group of more than two people, from different addresses, in breach of the Public Health Order,” police said in a statement.

Police also fined a different group of three women aged 39, 31 and 23 $1000 each for allegedly committing the same breach at the same park.

“Both groups of women were directed to move on, to which they complied.”

Parts of Sydney have been locked down since June 26 after a large surge in locally acquired Covid-19 cases was recorded.

Tough rules and restrictions remain in place for Greater Sydney, including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour.

The lockdown has been extended to at least August 28 as the state’s daily number of new Covid-19 cases continues to rise.

NSW Police have increased their surveillance and patrols across Greater Sydney in a bid to curve the growing number of daily cases.

Officers have also been deployed at popular beaches in the city’s east as thousands of people continue to flock there during the lockdown.

NSW hit a new record for the highest number of cases per day, reporting 390 infections on Friday.
