Ohio State vs. Penn State final score, results: TreVeyon Henderson shines as Buckeyes extend winning streak over Penn State
Penn State hung with Ohio State until the final minutes, but the Nittany Lions’ losing streak against the Buckeyes continued Saturday, falling 33-24 in Columbus.
The Nittany Lions fell to 5-3 on the season, their third straight loss, while Ohio State improves to 6-1 and helps bolster its playoff case. Ohio State has now won the last five matchups dating back to 2016 and is 9-2 since 2011.
The Buckeyes’ normally prolific offense was held relatively in check — they amassed 466 total yards, but scored just one touchdown in the red zone and were just 5-of-14 on third down.
It took time, but eventually freshman running back TreVeyon Henderson got going, peeling off several big runs, especially late. He finished the game with 152 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries on a night where star receivers Chris Olave (three catches, 44 yards) and Garrett Wilson (seven catches, 82 yards), were also fairly quiet.
The Buckeyes were also helped by four field goals from kicker Noah Ruggles, who’s longest attempt was only 35 yards.
Penn State’s offense thrived on third down, converting on 11-of-18 attempts, but also fumbled twice, one of which led to a scoop-and-score by the Buckeyes. The Nittany Lions totaled 394 yards of offense, but only 33 on the ground, continuing their woes in the running game. Receiver Jahan Dotson had yet another 100-plus yard game while Parker Washington had nine catches for 108 yards as well.
The Nittany Lions were also a perfect 3-for-3 in the red zone but Sean Clifford also got sacked four times, each one on third down, killing most of Penn State’s crucial drives.
Ohio State travels to Lincoln next week to take on Nebraska while Penn State travels to College Park to take on Maryland and reverse its losing streak.
