Karan said during a conversation at Indian Express Adda that ‘Gadar’ has blown everyone’s minds. It was a film which did well in 2001 and now in 2023, it’s breaking every record. The filmmaker said that he’s so happy for the single screens. There’s joyousness and celebration in single screen. The director further said that the one thing which has worked in the favour of all the films that are doing well at the moment, is conviction. They’re not looking for validation from anyone else and everyone is making films as per their sensibilities and a lot of that is going to happen in the future.
He also said that it’s not surprised because everyone is going through a phase and Hindi cinema was going to bounce back. Karan said that people were saying boycott Bollywood and that south cinema is ruling, but it’s nothing like that. He further added that he loves Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema and he was one of the first people to go to SS Rajamouli and ask him to present ‘Baahubali’. So, he loves that cinema but he also has a lot of love for the story tellers in Hindi cinema.Karan also spoke about Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and said that to talk about sex education through a mainstream movie is just outstanding. If one can make that impact through cinema, that’s what we’re here for. The session also saw Ananya Panday who played a rapid fire with Karan. During this rapid fire, he was asked if he would want to make a movie on a political event and he said that ‘Emergency’ is being made already and he’s excited to watch it!
