  • Brentford have completed the signing of Hibernian youngster Ethan Laidlaw

Nottingham Forest have rejected an improved £40m bid from Brentford for winger Brennan Johnson.

The Bees offered £35m plus £5m in add-ons for the Wales international but have been met by an unmoved Forest, who value their academy graduate at £50m.

It is the second time the London club have gone in for the 22-year-old after seeing a £30m offer turned down earlier this window.

Johnson is currently recovering from an injury he picked up while on international duty and is making ‘decent progress’, according to Forest boss Steve Cooper.

‘Brennan is making decent progress in terms of the plan for his recovery,’ Cooper said after their pre-season defeat to Leeds on Thursday. ‘We are hoping that he’ll be back training with us next week at some stage so that’s good.

‘That will give him a couple of weeks to get some training and maybe some game-time under his belt to get him available for the start of the season which is what we want.’

Meanwhile, Brentford have signed forward 18-year-old forward Ethan Laidlaw from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

Laidlaw will join Brentford’s development side for the 2023-24 campaign after agreeing a two-year deal with an option for an additional year.

The youngster played four times for Hibs in the European competition and found the net once against Nantes at Easter Road.
