Inter-ministerial committee on robotics to study end-to-end strategy, government’s role: MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar

“Currently, the committee is deliberating on the strategy to foster an end-to-end robotics ecosystem that encompasses research and design, manufacturing, prototyping, and adoption,” the minister said in response to a question posed by Kotha Prabhakar Reddy of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the Lok Sabha.

Further, he said projects to help leverage robotics in industrial automation have been sanctioned under the ministry of heavy industries’ (MHI) Scheme on Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector – Phase-II, for providing assistance to Common Technology Development and Services Infrastructure.

The projects include the setting up of three industry accelerators – the first by the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CAMRAS) at IISc Bangalore’s Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK); the second by the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC), IIT Madras; and the third by SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur.

The projects are in the initial stages of implementation. A total of Rs 89.31 crores has been sanctioned for them by the MHI, while the cost of the projects is Rs 111.05 crore.
