Booker Prize 2023 winner announcement shifted to November – Times of India

The Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious annual award given to the best work of fiction written in the English language and published in the UK or Ireland in the previous year. The winner announcement for the Booker Prize is generally done in mid-October, however this year it has now been postponed to the end of November.
The venue for this year’s Booker Prize award ceremony has also been changed to Old Billingsgate in London, where it will be held for the first time.
The Booker Prize 2023 longlist, called the “Booker Dozen”, will be announced August 1; followed by a shortlist announcement on September 21. This year the shortlist will be revealed at London’s National Portrait Gallery instead of the Serpentine Gallery as before. The winner will be announced on November 26, 2023.
Commenting on the change, organisers said, as reported by The Bookseller, “The winner of the Booker Prize 2023 will receive £50,000 as well as the recently named ’Iris’ trophy and can expect international recognition and a significant uplift in global sales. Translation rights have been sold in 26 languages for last year’s winner, Shehan Karunatilaka’s ‘The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida’, 24 of those since it won the Booker Prize in October 2022.”
Each shortlisted author will also receive a prize money of £2,500.
This year’s judges panel includes: Esi Edugyan- Chair of Judges, actor and twice-shortlisted writer; writer-director Adjoa Andoh; writer-academic Mary Jean Chan; author-professor James Shapiro; and actor-writer Robert Webb.
