Schools in these states to remain closed on Monday due to rains

Due to heavy rains, many state governments have announced schools holidays. Some states have also announced school closure in some districts due to Kanwar Mela. ‘Kanwar Yatra’ is an annual pilgrimage of Lord Shiva’s devotees. heavy rains have been pounding several parts of north India for past few days, leading to land slides in many hill states and most rivers, including the Yamuna in Delhi, in spate. In many cities, including Delhi and Gurgaon, waterlogging led to traffic woes. Railway services have also been hit.

Delhi

All the schools in Delhi will remain closed on Monday in view of the incessant rain in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced. Delhi recorded 153 mm rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the highest in a single day in July since 1982, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.. The Safdarjung observatory, the city’s primary weather station, recorded 153 mm rain in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the highest since the 24-hour rainfall of 169.9 mm on July 25, 1982, a senior IMD official said.Gurugram
Heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging and traffic congestion in several parts of Gurugram on Sunday with the administration advising corporate houses to work from home on Monday and schools to announce a holiday on Monday. Private schools in the city are expected to remain closed on Monday after an advisory issued by the district administration. Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav urged residents to stay indoors and venture out only for essential work. He also said corporate offices have been asked to advise their staff to work from home on Monday so that waterlogged roads can be cleared as soon as the rain stops.

“Due to incessant rainfall, roads are waterlogged and commuting is extremely difficult. Hence, the schools will remain closed tomorrow (July 10) for students’ safety, by orders from the District Authorities,” read a message from the principal of DAV public school, sector 14.

Himachal Pradesh
The Himachal Pradesh Government has closed all the government and private schools and colleges affiliated with the state for two days (July 10 and 11). Five people were killed as heavy rains pounded Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, triggering landslides and flash floods, damaging houses and paralysing normal life with authorities ordering the closure of schools and colleges for two days. All major rivers are in spate, officials said, adding the local met office had issued a fresh red alert of extremely heavy rains (above 204 mm) in ten out of 12 districts, barring tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti, on July 9.

Uttarakhand
Haridwar district administration has ordered the closure of all schools from class 1-12 from July 10-17, in view of the Kanwar Mela. “In view of the Kanwar Mela, the district administration has decided to close all the schools and Anganwadi centres from July 10 to 17,” said District Magistrate Dheeraj Garbyal.

Uttar Pradesh
All schools in Ghaziabad will remain closed till July 15 amid heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, all government and private educational institutions in UP’s Muzaffarnagar will remain closed from July 8 to 16 in view of the Kanwar Yatra, district administration officials said on Tuesday. District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bengari said all schools and colleges, including private institutions, have been ordered to remain shut from July 8 to July 16 in view of the Kanwar Yatra in the district.
