No such thing as a free lunch: Trump offers ‘food for everyone’ then leaves
Former US President Donald Trump waltzed into a Miami restaurant on Tuesday and left its patrons cheering after offering “food for everyone”. The offer however seems to have been somewhat open to interpretation. As fans and well-wishers extended birthday greetings and people continued their meals at the famous Cuban restaurant Versailles, the Republican leader quietly left without picking up the tab.
The incident took place soon after Trump pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts in the Miami federal court. According to the Miami New Times, Trump and his entourage had made a beeline for the bakery in Little Havana after leaving the courthouse.
“It turns out no one got anything. Not even a cafecito to-go. A knowledgeable source assures New Times that Donald Trump’s stop at Versailles totaled about ten minutes, leaving no time for anyone to eat anything, much less place an order,” the publication added.
Trump faces the potential of years in prison if convicted on 37 charges of obstruction, illegal retention of defense information and other violations. Hours after pleading not guilty, Trump claimed he was being targeted by the special prosecutor for political reasons. He also vowed to retaliate against President Joe Biden if he is elected president in 2024, contending that “there was an unwritten rule” to not prosecute former presidents and political rivals.
“I will appoint a real special prosecutor to go after the most corrupt president in the history of America, Joe Biden, and go after the Biden crime family,” Trump told supporters in a speech at his golf club in New Jersey.
