Alexis Mac Allister’s transfer to Liverpool will cost the Merseyside club a mere £35million due to an unusual clause in the midfielder’s contract.
The Argentina World Cup winner has been top of Jurgen Klopp’s summer wish list and the German manager is said to be delighted about the discounted price.
Mac Allister was initially set to cost Liverpool £60m but the Premier League giants were able to secure his services for almost half the price – according to The Athletic.
Mac Allister’s deal with Liverpool is set to be announced later today, with the Red trigging the clause to sign the midfielder after his medical tests were completed.

Liverpool secured Mac Allister for a discounted price because of a clause in his contract
According to The Athletic, Mac Allister’s contract contains a clause that was designed to ‘help facilitate a move’.
The clause was reportedly added to his contract when he put pen to paper on a new deal keeping him at Brighton until 2025 in October.
It is not thought to be a simple release clause – where clubs simply pay a certain amount and Brighton would have to accept the offer.
It is reportedly a clause that allows the Seagulls to have more input in the deal. However, the clause appears to have helped play a role in slashing Mac Allister’s price.
It not clear exactly what the clause is or how it may be used to facilitate a transfer from one club to another but it benefitted Liverpool by dropping Mac Allister’s price from £60m to £35m.
Knowledge of the clause had also put several other clubs on alert regarding Mac Allister’s future at Brighton, but Liverpool won the transfer race to sign the midfielder.

Liverpool are hoping to get the bulk of their summer arrivals done before the squad reconvenes on July 8 and Mac Allister is being viewed as a perfect start for Klopp.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi previously admitted that Mac Allister and in-demand team-mate Moises Caicedo would leave this summer.
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa on the final day of the season, he said: ‘I think that can be the last game of Alexis and Moises, I’m really sorry.
‘They are two great people and two great players. The policy of Brighton is like this,’ De Zerbi then added. ‘I think it’s right they can leave, can change teams and play in a level higher. We are ready. We have to find others big players to play without Alexis and Moises.’
