On the Podcast: Lauren Santo Domingo, Wes Gordon, and the Takeaways From Cannes
“Sometimes the most rebellious thing you can do is be elegant,” so said Carolina Herrera to Wes Gordon, the debonair, young successor of her eponymous fashion line who joined us in the studio last week. Ms. Herrera’s nib of wisdom seems a fitting theme for this week’s episode of The Run-Through. Hot off of Memorial Day Weekend we are starting the summer in full throttle, moving directly to Rio de Janeiro, where Gordon is showing his Carolina Herrera resort show with a sunset view of the city’s skyline. Right before he left for Brazil, Gordon spoke to us about the house’s first resort collection and first destination fashion show. He chatted about everything from his first interview with Herrera (they spoke for two hours and barely mentioned clothes) to the brand’s “conversation cardigans,” featuring eye-catching details like bugs—though we had no trouble conversing, even without the cardigans!
Later in the show we have even more elegant rebellion, or rebellious elegance, from Lauren Santo Domingo, one of the city’s chicest hostesses (and guests) who happens to love breaking the rules of entertaining—as well as her own closet-management adage of “one in, two out.” The newly appointed Artistic Director of the Home Collection for Tiffany & Co. regaled us with tales of her early years working at Vogue as a market editor, her secrets for entertaining (put your guests first), what she gifts as a guest (flowers after the fact, or nothing at all!), and what she likes to receive as a hostess (a book someone has recently read and loved).
