Jets will host Matt Araiza for a workout after it emerged he was NOT present at alleged gang rape
New York Jets hand Matt Araiza an NFL lifeline and will host him for a workout today… a week after it emerged he was NOT present at alleged gang rape that led to him being cut by Buffalo Bills
The Jets are working out punter Matt Araiza, ESPN reported.
Araiza was cut by the Bills last August after being named in a then-17-year-old’s civil lawsuit accusing him and his San Diego State teammates of gang raping her at an off-campus party.
But earlier this month it was revealed by the San Diego district attorney’s office that Araiza was not present at the time of the alleged gang rape.
He will not be charged criminally, and San Diego State also said last week that it found no wrongdoing against him in an investigation.
The civil case remains ongoing.
Matt Araiza has been given an NFL lifeline by the New York Jets
‘I am deeply gratified for the thorough work of the DA’s office in San Diego and for all the witnesses that were willing to come forward and tell the truth,’ he said in a statement to ProFootballTalk.
‘I am thankful that the facts of this case as provided by the witnesses will prove that what I have been saying from the beginning is, in fact, the truth.’
After it came to light that he was not present at the party where the alleged gang rape happened, he also revealed to Outkick’s Tomi Lahren that he will not be waiving his right to countersue.
‘The damage has been done,’ Araiza said of his reputation in an interview last week.
‘And if I was to settle, that would waive my right to countersue. So, at this point, we’re the heavy favorite, and continuing this any longer is going to be very damaging for them. So, I’m not willing to settle.’
A 2022 sixth-round pick, Araiza has never appeared in an NFL game to date.
