Harper gets new date, Baumgardner returns to Detroit, Davies-Cunningham set | Boxing News

TERRI HARPER 13-1-1 (6) won’t have long to wait for another fight after her recent disappointment.

The British super-welterweight goes up against Croatian Ivana Habazin 21-4 (7) on the Mauricio Lara-Leigh Wood 2 undercard in Manchester this Saturday.

Harper was scheduled to defend her 154lbs championship belt against Cecilia Braekhus in Dublin this past Saturday on the Chantelle Cameron-Katie Taylor bill. On the day of the fight the Norwegian withdrew from the contest suffering from flu.

Late replacement Habazin will be having only her third fight in three years. The 33-year-old fell short against Claressa Shields in January 2020 before bouncing back over two and a half years later with a win against Diana Prazak at welterweight.

ALYCIA BAUMGARDNER 14-1 (7) heads home to Detroit on July 15 to defend her super-featherweight crown.

The 28-year-old faces Christina Linardatou 14-2 (6) in a rematch from 2018 when the Greek boxer beat Baumgardner by split decision over 8×2 minute rounds in Louisville.

The highly anticipated lightweight debut of former amateur superstar Andy Cruz features on the undercard when he faces Juan Carlos Burgos 35-7-3 (21) over 10 rounds.

American super-lightweight rivals Richardson Hitchins 16-0 (7) and Montana Love 18-1-1 (9) will look to settle their differences on the Matchroom bill as well.

LIAM DAVIES 13-0 (5) makes the first defence of his British and European super-bantamweight titles against Jason Cunningham on July 29 at the Telford International Centre.

Last year was a rewarding one for the 27-year-old with impressive wins against Marc Leach and Ionut Baluta. And on each occasion, he picked up new hardware in the shape of the Lonsdale belt and the European.

Cunningham 32-7 (7) has held both championships and the Commonwealth in the past two years. The 33-year-old then vacated the European to chase tougher tests at world level. ‘The Iceman’ had his momentum cooled last summer when Zolani Tete stopped the Brit in four rounds. However, in November last year it was revealed Tete had failed a drugs test. The Boxing South Africa commission has since suspended Tete with the investigation still ongoing.

Next month’s Queensberry show will also feature prospects Eithan James 11-0, Owen Cooper 8-0 (3), Macauley Owen 6-0 (1), Oronzo Birardi 6-0 (5), Amaar Akbar 4-0 and Boma Brown 1-0.
