The Kerala Story releases in over 200 screens in US and Canada | Hindi Movie News – Times of India
Speaking about the global release of the film, director Sudipto Sen said during a virtual press conference, “The country was in denial of the long existing issue in the state of Kerala. The Kerala Story is a mission which is beyond the creative boundaries of cinema, a movement that should reach the masses all over the world and raise awareness.”
“The film’s subject was hidden from the masses and deserved to be told. We made the film in order to initiate deliberation worldwide. This is a very bold, honest and true film which in the beginning got no support, today stands at the point of releasing worldwide with a spectacular box office success in just 6 days,” said producer Vipul Shah. ‘The Kerala Story’ narrates the journey of three girls who convert to Islam and join the ISIS.
Soon after its release, ‘The Kerala Story’ was banned in West Bengal and was pulled out of theatres in Tamil Nadu too. The makers approached SC regarding the ban and Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha questioned the West Bengal government saying the film is being screened in the rest of the country without any problem and there appears to be no reason for the ban. The bench also asked the Tamil Nadu government to specify measures taken to provide adequate security to theatres screening “The Kerala Story”.
