Five teams with the toughest strength of schedule in 2023
The NFL will officially release its 2023 regular-season schedule on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET, though some games will be announced on Wednesday with the release of the league’s international schedule in London and Germany.
While specific dates and times aren’t known yet, teams know their home and road opponents for next season. Here are the five teams with the toughest strength of schedule in 2023:
1. Philadelphia Eagles | Opponents 2022 win percentage: .566
Most intriguing home game: San Francisco 49ers
The Eagles and 49ers are growing into quite a rivalry following their clash in the NFC Championship Game last season. The rematch affords Philadelphia a chance to prove its win in January wasn’t a fluke and San Francisco gets a chance to show what could have been had it had a healthy quarterback for a full game.
Most intriguing road game: Kansas City Chiefs
Super Bowl rematches are always fun. And while beating the Chiefs during the regular season doesn’t make up for losing in Super Bowl LVII, beating them in their home stadium would make the victory a little more sweeter.
2. Miami Dolphins | Opponents 2022 win percentage: .554
Most intriguing home game: Buffalo Bills
Miami and Buffalo played three times last season and each game was decided by three points or less. The Dolphins only win in those games come at home and their best chance at beating the Bills in 2023 is likely at Hard Rock Stadium.
Most intriguing road game: Baltimore Ravens
What better way to truly test the revamped secondary led by Jalen Ramsey than against Lamar Jackson and his new cast of receivers? The Ravens appear hellbent on proving they’re not just a running team, and Miami’s secondary would be a true measuring stick matchup to determine just how improved Baltimore’s pass catchers really are.
T-3. Dallas Cowboys | Opponents 2022 win percentage: .549
Most intriguing home game: Detroit Lions
This game could easily turn into a shootout with the offensive firepower each team possesses. But with Detroit’s new-look secondary and Dak Prescott throwing a career-high 15 interceptions last season, perhaps the Lions finally have a team capable of snapping Dallas’ streak of five straight wins over them including the playoffs.
Most intriguing road game: San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers have always been a thorn in the side of the Cowboys. And after eliminating them from the playoffs the last two seasons, Dallas has a little extra motivation to win this one.
T-3. New England Patriots | Opponents 2022 win percentage: .549
Most intriguing home game: New York Jets
Bill Belichick versus Aaron Rodgers; does it get any more captivating than that? After re-signing Jonathan Jones and grabbing Christian Gonzalez in the first round of the 2023 draft, New England presents a fascinating matchup for Rodgers and his new group of receivers.
Most intriguing road game: Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh is one of the few teams in the NFL that will line up and bring the fight straight to the Patriots. If Bill O’Brien’s new offense has any holes, the Steelers will expose them.
T-3. New York Giants | Opponents 2022 win percentage: .549
Most intriguing home game: Dallas Cowboys
New York has been swept by Dallas four of the last five seasons, and its only win during that span came at MetLife Stadium during the 2020 season. If Giants fans could pick just one home game to win in 2023, it would more than likely be against the Cowboys.
Most intriguing road game: Buffalo Bills
The Giants seemingly have all of the pieces in place of a true playoff contender, but going on the road and earning a win over the Bills would legitimize them as such in the eyes of many.
