Saul Canelo Alvarez has beaten John Ryder in a spectacular homecoming in Mexico.
It was a dominant display from the Mexican but Ryder can take a lot of pride in the courage he showed and the punishment that he absorbed.
He went down in the fifth but climbed back to his feet. Victory was eventually confirmed for Canelo in a unanimous decision on points.
Speaking after, Alvarez said he wants a rematch with Dimitry Bivol.
‘Everybody knows, we want Bivol,’ Canelo said. ‘If the fight with Bivol don’t happen, then we’ll see.’
When asked if he wants to face Bivol at 175 pounds again, Alvarez was clear: ‘Yes, same rules, same terms, same everything.
Canelo also had praise for Ryder: ‘He’s very strong fighter, man. But I’m in this position a long time, and I know and I respect my opponents because I know they’re coming for everything.’
