Since launching her podcast “Unhinged” in October 2022, New York-based DJ and entrepreneur Amrit Tietz has covered a wide swath of topics, ranging from egg freezing to scammers to politics to Love is Blind. Her conversations with authors, editors, business leaders, and more are open-ended and approachable, underscored by the same easy charm that drips through her stylish Instagram feed. However, one of the most engaging and thoughtful episodes of “Unhinged”, dropped on March 13, 2023, the day that her daughter Frankie Tietz was supposed to be born (Frankie actually arrived on February 23rd.) The guest of honor was Amrit herself, and she sat down to tell her entire birth story, which included intimate anecdotes of her earlier miscarriages, her troubles getting pregnant, and her scare with a pre-delivery blood pressure spike called preeclampsia, which led to the early debut of her sweet baby girl.
In the episode, Tietz is at her most raw and vulnerable, but uses lightness and humor to lay it all bare. It’s always been important for Tietz, who was born in Singapore and raised outside of Perth, Australia, to remain true to who she is—as a mom and a tastemaker.
That philosophy also applies to her eclectic and playful wardrobe. Think: Y2K-esque pairings of corsets and baggy pants or clunky platforms and mini skirts, accessorized, maybe, with a cute cardigan or loose vintage sweater vest. While pregnant, Tietz evolved her look without changing the vibe, opting for low-slung, bump-baring pants and tops, wild prints, and plenty of bold color.
As Tietz has proven, motherhood doesn’t have to blow up who you are, what you do, or what you wear. She may only be a couple of months into this new universe, but already, this multi-hyphenate mom is doing it all in her own, oh so cool way.
