Apple ramps up production for larger MacBook Air, may debut at WWDC – Times of India
Rumours are rife about Apple introducing a larger 15-inch MacBook Air this summer. Now, it is being said that suppliers have begun production for the panel for the larger MacBook Air. Thus, we can expect the alleged 15-inch MacBook Air to debut in the coming months, probably at the coming WWDC event.
Analyst Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants (via 9to5Mac) says that the production of panels for larger MacBook Air started back in February, and the production was further up in March and plans to increase the production further this month. While the analyst does not have a precise date for when the 15-inch MacBook Air could debut, he believes that the said model could arrive between late April and May.
Young had previously said that the larger MacBook Air would measure 15.5 inches, a tad smaller than the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Not much is known about the 15-inch MacBook Air, but Mark Gurman of Bloomberg refers to it as a “wider version of the 13.6-inch MacBook Air.”
As for what will be inside, rumours say that the larger MacBook Air might come with last year’s M2 chip. However, we could be in for a surprise, considering Apple is also expected to refresh last year’s MacBook Air, the 13-inch one, with the M3 chip, so leaving out a new model with a year-old chip would not make much sense.
The refresh of the 13-inch MacBook Air is expected to arrive at WWDC in June with the new M3 chip. While the analyst says that the 15-inch MacBook Air may launch by early May, it is much more likely that it may arrive a few weeks later, in June, at WWDC.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had earlier said that the 15-inch MacBook Air might not be called “MacBook Air,” dropping the “Air” moniker. However, we have not heard much about it since then.
