When Tim Tszyu wants to fight Jermell Charlo for undisputed title
Tim Tszyu has revealed he wants to fight Jermell Charlo for the undisputed title in July – but he’s still being disrespected by American pundits and fighters despite his knockout victory over Tony Harrison.
Tszyu dropped Harrison on Sunday with a series of savage blows to the head and body to claim the interim WBO super welterweight belt and emulate his legendary father Kostya by winning a world title.
The Sydneysider has again secured himself a showdown with undisputed champion Charlo and doesn’t want to waste time making it happen.
Tszyu’s manager Glenn Jennings revealed that his client is aiming for a July fight in Las Vegas.
‘We already know Tim isn’t carrying injuries from the win over Tony, which is wonderful,’ Jennings told Fox Sports Australia.
Coming off a brutal ninth round knockout of Tony Harrison, Tim Tszyu has revealed he’d like to fight Jermell Charlo for the undisputed title in July – and is somehow still not respected by American pundits and fighters

‘So we’ll do an assessment before he disappears on holiday but I’m thinking early to mid July would be ideal.’
Conveniently, July is also the time that UFC executives are discussing having UFC champion Alex Volkanovski defend his belt against Mexican Yair Rodriguez in Las Vegas.
Charlo was only mildly impressed with Tszyu’s performance on the weekend and has pledged to ‘shut him up’ when the two finally meet in Las Vegas.
‘He doesn’t really show a lot of athleticism to me,’ Charlo said after commentating on the fight in the US for Showtime.
‘When you have skills and you have style and you have power, that’s when you get four belts.
‘You see what I’m saying?’
Charlo, whose only defeat of his career so far came against Harrison in December, 2018, conceded it would be tough against Tszyu ‘because he’s coming forward’.
‘But I think he’s perfect for my style,’ he said.

Charlo believes Tszyu’s aggressive style is perfect for him
‘He fits suitably well for me. I know he can’t take my punch because I know my punch is different.’
Tszyu’s performance silenced a lot of his critics, who often suggested he was getting by on his father’s name rather than his boxing ability.
Yet many still question if the Aussie has what it takes to trade with Charlo.
Boxing promoter Lou DiBella believes Tszyu’s ‘basic’ style will be exploited by a crafty counter-puncher like Charlo.
‘Tszyu winning big, but he’s straight ahead and pretty basic,’ DiBella tweeted.
‘Charlo will feed on him and is probably licking his chops. These rounds with a high IQ fighter will help Tszyu, who is a good young fighter. I don’t see him keeping the champ off him, with power or boxing’.

Former world champion and boxing commentator Sergio Mora was another who wasn’t overly impressed by the Aussie
Editor of The Ring magazine, Douglass Fischer, likewise doesn’t think Tszyu is ready for Charlo.
‘Harrison provided excellent experience for Tszyu,’ Fischer tweeted.
‘He needs another bout or two like this before being truly ready for a beast like Charlo, but if Charlo-Tszyu is next, bring it on.’
Former world champion and boxing commentator Sergio Mora was another who wasn’t overly impressed by the Aussie.
‘I was BIG fan of Kostya Tszyu back in the day,’ he tweeted.
‘His straight right hand was laser like lethal! Tim has similarities to his father, but being the 4th fighter to stop Harrison ain’t as big a statement as it looks…but it’s a good start!’
