‘It’s still on… it’ll be difficult but who knows!’: Paul Scholes talks up Manchester United’s QUADRUPLE chances after memorable win over Barcelona saw them reach Europa League last-16
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is refusing to rule out his old side winning a famous quadruple after beating Barcelona in their Europa League play-off.
The Red Devils won 4-3 on aggregate to take their place in the last-16 of the competition, with Erik ten Hag’s side among the favourites to lift the trophy.
United will face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, while the club remain in contention in both the Premier League title and the FA Cup.
Scholes had joked following the first leg against Barcelona that a quadruple remained on for the fast-improving side – and he hasn’t changed his mind.
The former United midfielder suggested the prospect looked more realistic now, but acknowledged it remains a difficult challenge to achieve, as Liverpool discovered last season.

‘It is still on,’ Scholes said on BT Sport.
‘In the top five leagues in Europe we are the only ones who can still win the quadruple.
‘Look it is there, it’ll be difficult but who knows.’
Following the Carabao Cup final on Sunday against Newcastle, United face West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round on March 1.
The Red Devils’ next Premier League match falls on March 5 against rivals Liverpool.
United are currently five points behind Arsenal in the Premier League, with the league leaders also having a game in hand on Erik ten Hag’s side.
Scholes admitted the gruelling schedule could go on to hurt their chances, but insisted his former side remain firmly in the title race.
‘Every game from now until the end of the season is going to be big,’ Scholes said. ‘I am still not going to rule them out of the title. I know people will say they are a little bit too far away.

‘A lot of people say Man City will win the league. What are they, two points behind Man City? I think they are in with a chance with this momentum.
‘I think the only thing that might hurt them is the amount of games.
‘They have the League Cup final, FA Cup midweek, Liverpool the week after. There are tough games. But on the other hand they have played Man City and Arsenal twice.
‘I still think they are in a half decent position to go for the league.’
