Samantha debuts feisty ‘Citadel’ look, confirms Indian instalment of spy franchise with Varun Dhawan has ‘started rolling’ – Times of India

After months of speculation, Samantha has finally confirmed her role as the female lead in the Indian instalment of the Russo Brothers’ spy franchise – Citadel.
On Wednesday, the actress dropped the first poster of her character from the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series. Dressed in jeans, a leather jacket and rocking shades, the actress is expected to play a spy in this espionage action series that will be directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (Raj & DK) who also serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Sharing her first-look poster, Samantha wrote, “the mission is on fire. we have started rolling for the Indian instalment of Citadel.”

The announcement comes more than a month after Varun was announced as the male lead in the series. “We are thrilled to officially announce that we will be bringing you the Indian instalment of the Citadel universe,” the Russo Brothers said in an Instagram post.

Samantha’s confirmation as the leading lady in the show also comes at a time when rumours ran wild about the actress possibly being replaced in the series due to her illness. Last year, the star made headlines when she revealed that she has been under treatment for an autoimmune ailment called Myositis. Shortly after, reports claimed that she was planning to quit her film projects in order to make a full recovery.

However, those rumours were later rubbished in an exclusive statement to ETimes that read, “Anything and everything written about her being replaced in Citadel is rubbish. She will begin the shoot in the second half of January.”

Varun got cracking on the shoot early last month. The star even shared a bloody and bruised photo of himself after ‘a ruff night’ on the sets.

‘Citadel’ is said to be a first-of-its-kind global franchise, that builds an inter-connected storyline. The series that stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra, is reportedly one of the most expensive series ever created, only second to ‘Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’.
