How to get your vaccine on your phone
Proving your vaccination status is now as simple as clicking a few buttons on your phone, with a Covid-19 certificate now downloadable on either your Apple Wallet or the Google Pay app.
Australians who have received both doses of either the AstraZeneca or the Pfizer jab can now simply download their vaccine status certificate from the myGov website onto either their Apple or Android device.
The Australian government has added the ability for Aussies to download the certificate straight to their phone basically so users can quickly show proof of their vaccine status – which may be handy if restaurants, pubs and even if planes require proof prior to entry.
In July, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced certificates were already available for online access, and hinted the government would be introducing downloadable certificates sooner rather than later.
“We already have vaccine certificates. They already exist. And, those vaccine certificates, this month, we expect to be in a form that can be dropped into Apple Wallets, things of that nature,” he said.
“And, later in the year, about October we estimate, we’ll have a vaccination certificate that will be able to be used, internationally recognised, to facilitate when people are moving out of the country and into the country, being able to recognise others’ certificates.”
How to add your Covid-19 vaccination certificate to your phone
Adding your Covid-19 digital certificate to your Apple Wallet or Google Pay on your device for easy storage and accessibility is relatively simple and looks similar to a digital driver’s licence.
Once you’ve had all required doses of either Pfizer or Astra Zeneca, your immunisation record’s been updated, you can get your Covid-19 digital certificate.
However, your vaccination provider needs to report all your Covid-19 vaccination information to the Australian Immunisation Register before you can see your digital certificate.
According to the Services Australia website, fully vaccinated Australians can add their digital certificates to either Apple Wallet or Google Pay by using either:
– The Express Plus Medicare mobile app
– Your Medicare online account through myGov
But be warned – you will need to use either the Safari or Chrome browser on your device.
How to download the certificate if you’re using the Express Plus Medicare mobile app
1. Select Immunisation history from Services
2. Select your name, and then View COVID-19 digital certificate
3. Select either Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Pay.
How to download the certificate if you’re using THE Medicare online account through myGov
1. Sign in to your myGov account
2. Select Medicare
3. Select View statement on the Immunisation history tile
4. Select your name, and then View Covid-19 digital certificate
5. Select either Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Pay.
But even if you don’t have Medicare and have received the full two doses of either vaccine, you can still access your proof of vaccination through the Individual Healthcare Identifiers service via myGov.
