John McEnroe will not feature as part of Channel 9’s coverage of the Australian Open after the tennis legend was dropped by American broadcaster ESPN.
McEnroe, 63, has been a staple figure during the grand slam in Melbourne, providing his expertise for ESPN and Channel 9 throughout the two-week tournament.
However, Newscorp reports that the Stateside broadcaster has opted not to include McEnroe as part of their commentary team this year, meaning he will not be able to provide analysis for Nine as he won’t be travelling to Australia.

Instead, he will work with Eurosport. Elsewhere, former Aussie tennis player Sam Groth will also skip media duties after he was voted in as the Member for Nepean at November’s state elections.
Former champion Jim Courier will continue his role as commentator and on-court interviewer for this year’s tournament.
Todd Woodbridge, Lleyton Hewitt, Jelena Dokic, Dylan Alcott, Casey Dellacqua, Sam Smith, Alicia Molik, Mark Philippoussis, Darren Cahill and Peter Psaltis will all provide analysis on Channel 9.
The Australian broadcaster has also recruited former AFL hero and Dockers champion Matthew Pavlich, who will be part of the off-court reporting team.
Elsewhere, Andy Lee is returning alongside Sophie Monk and Mike Goldstein for a special Australian Open edition of The Hundred, while feature some of the tournament’s biggest names.
