Come the cold fall and winter months, booking an island Airbnb feels like the ultimate fantasy: who doesn’t want to escape to a white sand beach as the temperature plummets—and stays—below freezing? (The “Winter Blues,” after all, is a medically recognized term, whereas its more extreme cousin, “Seasonal Affective Disorder,” is a medical diagnosis.)
After a year-and-a-half of pandemic-related travel bans, many of these tropical getaways are finally allowing in (vaccinated) tourists again. Take Hawaii, which reopened its borders this November. Or St. Barth’s, which did so on June 9.
