Matt Nagy’s team has lost five straight games. But the Chicago Bears look to feast on the winless Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
It’s the second meeting of the season between two franchises that have met at least once every year since 1930. Back in Week 4 at Soldier Field, the Chicago Bears held on to defeat the Detroit Lions, 24-14. Rookie quarterback Justin Fields made his second NFL start, throwing for 209 yards and an interception.
This time around, Andy Dalton will get the start for Matt Nagy’s team this week as Fields is dealing with injured ribs. It should be noted that the Lions are winless in their last 14 games dating back to Week 14 of 2020. After a 3-2 start this year, the Bears are in the midst of five-game losing streak.
5. Bears total 4 sacks…again
When these teams met back in Week 4, the Chicago defense made life miserable for Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff. He hit on 24-of-38 throws for 299 yards, hit on a pair of second-half scores to wide receiver Kalif Rymond and was not picked off. But he was sacked four times and also fumbled on three occasions, losing the ball twice.
As for that quartet of quarterback traps, they belonged to linebackers Robert Quinn, Roquan Smith and Khalil Mack, as well as safety Tashaun Gipson. Of course, four sacks is a lot easier said than without Mack – out for the season with a foot injury. But the Lions have allowed 27 sacks in 10 games. And after missing last week’s game at Cleveland, Goff is expected to return this week.
