2nd edition of North East Olympic Games concludes in Shilllong

The 2nd edition of the North East Olympic Games concluded on Wednesday in Shilllong, Meghalaya with Manipur emerging as the overall team champion with a total of 240 medals which included 88 gold medal 75 silver and 77 bronze medals.

Assam took the second spot with a total of 203 medals which included 79 gold medals, 61 silver and 63 bronze medals. Arunachal Pradesh got the third spot from the host State with a total of 112 medals which included 39 gold, 36 silver and 37 bronze medals. Host State Meghalaya won a total of 149 medal consisting of 36 golds,  35 silver and 78 bronze medals and secured the fourth spot.

Nagaland secured the fifth spot with a total of 78 medal comprising of 18 gold medals while Mizoram was at the sixth spot with a total of 106 medal including 16 gold medals. Tripura and Sikkim grabbed the 8th and 9th spots  with four gold medals and three gold medals respectively.

In this one week long edition of the sporting event, about 3000 participants from all around the North East states competed in 18 disciplines like football, shooting, basketball and others at 12 venues spread across Shillong.  All the teams gave their heart out to win the medals for their respective states. The closing ceremony of the event is being held at SAI complex at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma attended the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest along with Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh.

Chief Minister Sangma during his address congratulated the athletes who participated in the event and said, the event will give a platform to the youths of the region to showcase their talents and mettle. He held that the event was a celebration of the youths and the entire North East. The Chief Minister further said, the event has certainly made the bar higher for the athletes and the States to conduct and participate in an event for the North East. He showed his appreciation to all sports associations who had put in their efforts for a smooth conduct of the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022.

It may be mentioned that Nagaland will host the next edition of the Northeast Olympic Games.
