24 Hours With Designer Jeremy Scott Is Just as Much Fun as You’d Imagine

Jeremy Scott is one of fashion’s most eccentric and vivacious personalities—and after recently spending 24 hours with the Moschino designer in L.A., Vogue can confirm he’s just as much fun as you’d expect him to be. In the new video, Scott’s day begins at 9 a.m. at his serene home, which has an airy, indoor-outdoor design. “Sometimes when I’m on a morning Zoom, people will think the [birds chirping] is a backdrop or sound effect,” says Scott. We then joined the designer on his patio, where he reflected on moving to the City of Angels from his native Missouri. “As an artist, I had more space and room to grow and discover myself,” he says. “But you have to remember where you come from. When I first started out in Paris, I was homeless and sleeping on the streets.”

Continuing on with his morning, Scott headed inside to make some hot water with lemon, where he was joined by special guest: Vanessa Hudgens (in a full pink Moschino sweatsuit, no less). The duo then headed to Runyon Canyon Park for a quick hike, where they reflected on Scott’s signature designs. “I’ve always been such a fan of your designs, because they’re so unique and vibrant,” Hudgens says. As they admired the nearby Hollywood sign, Scott added of his creative process, “I look at my designs like a director would a film.”

After getting their steps in, it was time for Scott to get to work at the Moschino studio. His creative space is filled with Moschino-clad teddy bears and a colorful jukebox. Scott also showed off one of his most prized possessions: a bronzed pair of his winged Adidas shoes, which “changed his life,” the designer says. He looked back on how these theatrical designs weren’t always easy to get approved. “It’s not telling the truth if I didn’t say I’ve been told no many, many times,” says Scott. “No, it won’t sell or no, it won’t work—but finding your own path and finding your own happiness along the way is how you’re going to find your true success. Happiness is the ultimate success.”

To wrap up his busy day, Scott headed to Milk Studios to shoot his new resort 2023 collection (which he described to Hudgens as “Cher 1976 on holiday”). Of the new pieces, he shares, “I was thinking about vintage airline stewardesses and this matchy-matchy look. Also this cute, ‘60s, hippy flower-power girl.” At the end of the day, though, he simply wants his clothes to make the wearer feel good and empowered in them. “[Growing up,] fashion was my world that made me feel good and happy,” says Scott. “Hopefully, I can create this world and put my arms around lots of other little kids who were maybe trying to find their own little happy place, too.” Watch the full 24 hours with Scott above.
