2020’s Bodoland Accord paved the way for peace in the region, says Assam Governor
Speaking at the two year completion of the BTC government in Kokrajhar, the Governor said that the Accord was a land mark event which made the tangible peace and development in BTR a reality.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their invaluable contribution in making this landmark Accord, a reality, the Governor expressed hope that in the aftermath of the Accord, the BTR Government, along with the support and guidance of the Government of India and Government of Assam will be working with more dedication towards implementing the provisions of the BTR Accord in letter and spirit.
The Governor said that it is a happy moment for the present Government in BTR to complete two years in office. He said that in the last two years the fundamental approach of the BTC government had been to rebuild, revitalize and foster peaceful coexistence and communal harmony in the region. After many years of prolonged conflict and unrest, there is complete peace prevailing in BTR, the Governor added.
Giving a snapshot of the development initiatives undertaken by the government, the Governor said that in the last two years the government has taken concrete steps towards developing an ecosystem to address the large-scale development needs of the people of all sections and all age groups. MoUs have been signed with the United Nations Development Programme, UNICEF to transform the region especially rural areas. Prof. Mukhi also said that in the last two years’ impetus was given by the BTC Government on the improvement of quality education through a series of reforms over the past two years. Talking about the BTR Super 50 programme, the Governor said that the programme which is a multidisciplinary residential coaching and training program for IAS/IIT/Engineering/Medical and other competitive examination aspirants would give rich dividends to the youth of the region in the coming days.
He also said that various other programs are being implemented to supplement infrastructure in the areas of irrigation, water resources and flood control in accordance with the provisions of Flagship Programmes, State Schemes, and BTR programmes. He also said that to enhance the rural economy, mapping of livelihood potential has been completed in all five districts. The government is focusing on a cluster-based strategy with mechanization, value addition, marketing, and skill upgradation for bringing about paradigm shift in development narrative of the region.
